American Furukawa offers the complete line of Furukawa Electric shape memory and super-elastic nickel-titanium alloys used in a broad range of industries and applications. Furukawa established its global leadership position with this technology when it became the first company in the world to manufacture and commercialize the super-elastic NT alloy product.

Super-Elastic
Super-elastic NT alloys offer exceptionally high performance under demanding stress and force –stretching and bending like rubber but springing back to their original shape when the stress is removed. This material can be flexed up to 10 times the elastic limit of

conventional metals and are widely used for:

  • Orthodontic wires

  • Eyeglass frames

  • Guide wires for catheters

  • Clothing & accessories (hats, shoes, jewelry)

  • Paint guns

  • Cellular phone antennas

  • Fishing lines and more

Shape Memory

Shape memory NT alloys are materials that remember their original shape and return to it when heated. Some of their most common applications include:

  • Home appliances (coffee makers, water supplies, faucets)

  • Air conditioners

  • Automobiles

  • Satellite altitude controlling systems

  • Medical equipment sterilization machines

We offer multiple NT alloy formulations to meet our customers’ specific shape memory, elasticity and application requirements.
